Pray for peace
We were deeply moved and saddened by the terrible events in Southport on 29 July, which resulted in the loss of three precious children and injuries to many others. It is a time of profound sorrow and anguish as the local community and the nation grapple with the enormity of this tragedy.
The subsequent outbreaks of riots, violence, and criminal damage across the country are extremely troubling and distressing. Many of our Church Army family serve in areas deeply affected by this violence and unrest and are committed to working hand in hand with everyone to bring hope and unity.
Many of us know how isolated and frustrated some people feel within our communities; how poverty is impacting people, and how many people feel unloved and unwanted. Our Evangelists and wider community remain dedicated to tirelessly spreading God’s boundless love, foster acceptance, and nurture peace.
We witness firsthand the devastating effects of division and destruction on communities and individuals and commit to pray for reconciliation and peace.

On Friday 9 August, we held a time of prayer for peace across our nations, for God’s guidance for those in authority addressing injustice and for strength for everyone affected by the tragic events in Southport on 29 July. Our continued thoughts are with the families and loved ones of Elsie Dot Stancombe, Alice da Silva Aguir and Bebe King. We lift them to the Lord and ask for strength and comfort as they navigate their grief and sorrow.
Prayer for Peace
Loving God
Today make your presence known to all those in our communities who feel fear, anxiety, and alienation in the places they should feel at home. Help them to feel your love and care for them.
Lord Jesus
Clear the eyes of those who wish harm on others. May they see themselves in those around them, may they empathise rather than dehumanise. May they be transformed.
Holy Spirit
Bring hope and restoration to places reeling from violence and hurt. May the new shoots of your Kingdom of peace take root deeply in the face of destruction. May you bring love.
