Rachel: My Volunteer Story
North of England
“In 2017 I felt like it was right to give up my job in youth work and see what God had for me next. This led me to volunteering for a number of projects including a Church Army project working with vulnerable women. I loved being part of the team there and learnt so much from the staff about patience, perseverance, and love. They looked after me well and taught me loads. I was so thankful to be part of the team and felt at home.
In 2019 a job came up in the project. I applied and got it. This was exciting as it meant I got to continue to be part of this wonderful team and having just had a little boy it worked well with family life. I am still a part of this team today and continue to feel at home and learning a lot about loving people in their chaos. It’s good to have an understanding of being a volunteer as now my role is to support the volunteers and it’s great to feel I understand the challenges of volunteering to another level than if I’d only been employed.
I am so thankful that the opportunity to volunteer came up and then that it led to a job I felt made for.”
