Meet Hannah

We would like to introduce Hannah O’Neill

Hannah’s story begins with a profound moment at just three years old, when she asked her father if she too, could be friends with Jesus. Her parents nurtured this budding faith, guiding her through the early years as her relationship with Jesus flourished. Growing up in a Christian family in Belfast, Hannah’s childhood was deeply rooted in the Bible. What started as a simple, childlike trust in God has now blossomed into a steadfast foundation shaping her life today.

Hannah initially trained as a teacher but was always drawn to volunteering through her church. This passion eventually led her to ministry in her hometown when a position opened in her parish. Today, Hannah is the Pioneer Evangelist at Church Army’s Sligo Centre of Mission, based in Bundoran, County Donegal.

A Heart for Youth and Women’s Ministry

Youth ministry is a central part of Hannah’s work and something she feels deeply passionate about. She loves enabling young people to get to know Jesus and take the first steps in their faith journeys. Beyond her work with youth, Hannah is equally devoted to women’s ministry, leading empowering groups that create space for women to grow in faith and fellowship.

Hannah’s impact extends beyond her local community. She also works with Christ in Youth, as their regional worker for the West of Ireland, supporting churches and youth leaders to call young people to Christ and mobilising them to be kingdom workers in the local church.

Despite years of ministry experience, Hannah didn’t initially see herself as an evangelist. “My dad was an evangelist,” she explains. “He’d stand at the interface in Belfast with a big cross, symbolising peace, reconciliation, and the good news of Jesus. To me, that’s what an evangelist did. It wasn’t until conversations with others that I realised helping people explore a relationship with Jesus is my way of evangelism.”

Hannah’s personal calling became clearer when she started her Church Army journey through the Envoy course. “I quickly realised,” she reflects, “these were my people.” Inspired by Church Army’s approach to sharing God’s love and nurturing ministry, Hannah embarked on the discernment process to become a Church Army Evangelist.

Training and Transformation

Hannah describes her training with Church Army as a life-changing experience. “Learning theology and practically applying it to ministry has been invaluable,” she shares. Being surrounded by like-minded people during these formative years, she says, has been a true blessing. “Having the Church Army community supporting you has been phenomenal. It’s a life-giving, affirming space.”

The training has also equipped Hannah with vital leadership and practical skills, such as crafting project proposals and applying for grants. These tools are now essential as she builds and develops new worshipping communities.

Becoming a Commissioned Church Army Evangelist marks an important milestone in Hannah’s life. “It’s the recognition and affirmation that I am right where God wants me to be,” she shares with gratitude.

Hannah’s ministry in Bundoran will continue to grow after her commissioning. She is eager to see how God will work through her and the local community in the years ahead.
