The Sanctuary Update

In 2021, we opened the UK’s first Women’s Only Homeless Hostel in central London. Here’s how it’s changing lives already…

The Story So far…

In October 2021, after nearly two years of extensive refurbishment we were delighted to relaunch the Marylebone Project’s day centre as The Sanctuary, a centre which serves the needs of homeless women in London, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The official opening was an opportunity to see the transformation of the service and to thank our partners: The Evening Standard and Barclays for their generosity. The Plaque was unveiled by Marylebone’s Patron, Ellie Goulding and Hannah Bernard (Head of Business Banking UK, Barclays).

Hear from some of the women who attend The Sanctuary

“I went to the sanctuary in the morning after sleeping rough and it is an absolutely fantastic place. The staff are professional and friendly and they can’t do enough for you. You can go there and take a shower, there are cooking classes, knitting classes, exercise classes or you can just sit and chill. It has been a life saver for me”

“The Sanctuary team have helped me so much, I am so grateful for all of their support and the kindness that they have shown. I was once street homeless, now, I am living in a 1 bedroom studio flat because my Advice worker helped me. The activities also help me because they improve my mental health, especially the meditation and the body alignment massages”

72 Women have accessed the Sanctuary

between October 21 and March 22.
