Salary: £19,448.5 per annum (£38,897 FTE)

Hours: 18.75 hours a week with evening and weekend work required on occasion.

Normal working pattern will need to include working on a Wednesday.

You will be required to attend weekend residentials which happen 6 times a year. There is a TOIL policy in place for this.

Church Army work alongside some of the most deprived communities in the UK and Ireland, we work with those who are homeless, lonely, experiencing self-harm, at risk of gang or knife crime, unemployed and those who are struggling financially. In the role of being a tutor, you will be a key figure in expanding initial teams provide outstanding formation in contextual mission and evangelist which you will achieve by forming effective evangelists who are able to work with God in transforming communities.

Working in a gifted team of educators you will be responsible for the initial training and formation of our Evangelists-in-Training, so it is essential that you have an active and living Christian faith, experience working outside of the traditional faith and strong teamworking skills to develop relationships.

Main Responsibilities

  • To teach and assess students engaged in Church Army initial Training and act as a flexible resource to ensure the ongoing effectiveness of training.
  • In conjunction with the other Tutors, to have responsibility for the formation and development for Church Army Evangelists-in-Training.
  • With the Head of Initial Training and the Training Administrators, to ensure clear and timely communication both within and from the training team.
  •  To collaborate with colleagues in the Organisational Development team to ensure research and development informs and is informed by emerging practice.
  • To be an active participant of the Co.Lab Team

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • An MA in Theology or equivalent, or to be working towards this.
  • Working knowledge of theological education.
  • Experience in teaching mixed ability adult groups
  • Practical experience in mission and evangelism with a particular emphasis on working outside traditional church contexts.
  • Ability to enthuse others in missions and evangelism.
  • Strong social and personal skills, to enable positive relationships with members of the learning community and work with people unconditionally.
  • High level of skills in administration, communication and organisational ability with attention to detail.
  • Willingness to reflect on personal practices and a good measure of self-awareness
  • Ability to work and deliver under tight deadlines.
  • A living and active faith in Christ Jesus, demonstrated in involvement in a local church.
  • Able to work weekends and evenings as required for residential training.
  • Able to travel and willingness to stay away overnight if required.
