Pioneer youth Minister

Details We are looking to appoint a Pioneer Youth Minister with a heart for young people, schools, living in a community and working alongside established and respected churches. 

We are looking for someone who is:
  • experienced in responding to the spiritual needs of unchurched young people
  • able to lead and enthuse others in youth mission and evangelism
  • passionate and confident about sharing the Christian faith with young people
In 2015 a coffee shop called the gathering was opened in the centre of Penrith and this space became dedicated to young people in October 2016. The gathering is valued as a space for young people run by young people and it has a strong emphasis on being a family which supports one another. It is felt that the space at the gathering could be used by a far greater number of young people by hosting a number of different clubs and groups on different days and times which would appeal to a wide spectrum of young people. Most of the young people who currently attend the gathering are likely to remain in the area and there is a chance that a sustainable, growing and lasting Fresh Expression of Church could be formed. The person appointed will  lead and develop a Fresh Expression of a Christian Church with young people and young adults with the objective that this Church is sustainable, growing and a lasting Christian community.
 
Salary £22, 815 per annum
 
Contract
 
Fixed Term Contract - funded for 4 years
Hours 37.5 hours per week
(mainly afternoons, early evenings and weekends)
 
Housing
 
A two-bedroom flat above the gathering is provided rent free as a requirement of the job. Alternative accommodation may be considered if personal/family needs require that. 
 
Pension If a Church Army commissioned evangelist, non-contributory, operated by the Church of England Pensions Board.
If not Church Army commissioned then the employee will be assessed under auto-enrolment pension legislation and if eligible, minimum contributions will be made. 
 
Annual Leave 25 days per year plus bank holidays (33 days in total). 
 
DBS Requirement An enhanced DBS check required and compliance with Church Army's Safer Ministry policy. 
Occupational
Requirement 
This post is subject to an Occupational Requirement under the provisions made in the Equality Act 2010 that the post holder has an active faith in Jesus. The successful candidate must be in agreement with the vision and values of Church Army.

Interviews 4 March 2019 - Introductory tour of the gathering and meetings with key stakeholders.
